Hi everyone,

I am out here at Camp Canada visiting our Canadian Armed Forces members deployed here in Kuwait. Every year during the holiday season, I make it a point to visit our deployed personnel.

As Canadians gather with their friends and loved ones to celebrate this holiday season, I want to send my sincere wishes to the entire Defence Team and thank you for all of your hard work and dedication in 2017.

Canadian Armed Forces members and Public Service colleagues have worked tirelessly alongside one another day in and day out to protect Canadians.

Time and again, you answered when called upon. From helping communities battle fires in British Columbia, to helping during the floods in Quebec and Ontario, to providing support during countless search and rescue calls, to contributing to a wide range of military operations throughout the world. Canadians are justifiably proud of the work that you do.

Now, a great deal of works remains ahead of us on our new Defence Policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged. I look forward to working alongside you in the New Year as we continue the work to implement all aspects of our new Defence Policy.

I also want to add that while the holidays are a time for celebration, for the men and women of the Defence Team who are separated from their families while posted abroad, it can also be a very hard time.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I want to thank you and your families for the personal sacrifice you make on behalf for our country. You are in all of our thoughts and Canadians are rightfully proud of you.

Thank you for all that you do for all of us and I hope you have a joyful and festive holiday season spent with friends, family and loved ones.

Happy holidays. Merry Christmas!
